John Schofield, Deputy Director of Informatics, Central Manchester NHS Foundation Trust
CMFT have embarked on an exciting IT strategy which looks to improve the IT application landscape in the Trust. The strategy will look to combine off the shelf ‘best of breed’ systems with internally built applications.
The best of breed systems will be bought according to their suitability to the services and staff at CMFT, and their market leading position. Bringing together market leading applications with a massive healthcare organisation also presents significant opportunities to partner and develop these applications further which is something we have achieved such as the Patientrack (observations) and Sunquest ICE (order communications).
Internally built applications will be built in a service oriented way with our aim to build scalable software components that can be used across the clinical services at CMFT. Building scalable software is an efficient way of delivering functionality to such a wide and varied group of services. It is cost effective, easy to implement, easy to maintain and flexible to the ever changing needs of the NHS. These internally built applications will work on the Chameleon platform, which provides a consistent standard and architecture for these components.
John Schofield is the Deputy Director of Informatics at CMFT, and has been involved in IT for over 10years. His experience involves data warehousing, software development, integration and business intelligence.
